India’s leading electric car manufacturer, Tata Motors has gained a supply order for 1,000 XPres-T EVs from the Hyderabad-based OHM E Logistics for electric cab transportation services.

OHM E LogisticsThe all-electric sedan will be delivered to OHM E Logistics in a phased manner.

The latest bulk order for the Xpres-T sedan comes a month after Tata Motors bagged India’s single biggest order for electric passenger vehicles – 25,000 XPres-Ts to Uber India on February 20 and takes total orders for the e-sedan in the ongoing fiscal to 49,000 units (see data table below) with another 10 days left for FY2023 to come to a close.

Ramesh Dorairajan, Senior General Manager – Network Management & EV Sales, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said, “We are delighted to support OHM E Logistics, a forward-thinking logistics company that is leveraging technology and sustainability into the ride hailing business. Through our Xpres-T EV sedans, we have created a new benchmark in the sustainable fleet market segment, currently commanding a market share of over 90%. The XPres-T EV offers an optimal battery size and captive fast charging solution, which ensures outstandingly low cost of ownership in addition to safety and passenger comfort, making it a comprehensive and attractive proposition for fleet owners and operators.”

Nirmal Reddy, founder, OHM E Logistics, commented: “As part of OHM’s commitment towards sustainable mobility, we are looking forward to enhancing our fleet with the Xpres-T EV. This addition will help us further boost our existing airport cab operations and increase availability of electric vehicles for intra-city services to the people of Hyderabad.”

Tata Motors had launched the Xpres brand exclusively for fleet customers with the Xpres-T EV being the first vehicle under this brand, in July 2021. Clearly, the move has paid off handsomely given that in the April 2022 to end-March 2023 period, the company has secured close to 50,000 orders.

The new XPres-T electric sedan comes with two range options – 315km and 277km (ARAI-certified range under test conditions).

According to Tata Motors, the e-sedan has a high energy density battery of 26 kWh and 25.5 kWh and be charged from 0-80% in 59 minutes and 110 minutes respectively, using fast charging or can also be normally charged from any 15 A plug point. The XPres T comes with automatic transmission, dual airbags and ABS with EBD as standard across variants.

It’s been a busy year for Tata Motors’ passenger vehicle division, which continues to witness strong demand for its seven-model range.

From the EV perspective, along with the sustained demand for the Nexon EV, India’s best-selling ePV, the Tigor EV and more recently the Tiago EV, the bulk orders for the fleet-only XPres-T will keep the company’s manufacturing operations humming through 2023 and beyond.
