With the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Renault Group and Iberdrola España have strengthened their partnership to spearhead Spain’s energy transition by promoting electromobility, decarbonization, and the growth of renewable energy options for businesses and consumers.

An existing long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) between the two businesses, which covers 282 MW of renewable electricity to feed Renault Group’s manufacturing sites in Spain, is expanded upon by this historic arrangement. According to the Pexapark Renewables Market Outlook 2025, Iberdrola España was recently designated the top PPA seller in Europe for the second consecutive year.

      Promoting Consumers’ Sustainable Mobility

Customers who buy 100% electric cars from Renault Group brands, such as Dacia, Alpine, and Renault, will benefit from the new alliance in the following ways:

      • Free home charging for up to 10,000 km annually for three years (a total of 30,000 km)

      • Installation of a Mobilize home charger

      • Mobilize Financial Services offers affordable EV financing.

      • A household electricity contract with Iberdrola España that is 100% renewable

With these advantages, the Spanish market offers one of the most complete and easily available EV ownership packages.

      Renault Hybridization Hub Decarbonization

Additionally, the deal supports the following cutting-edge energy solutions at the Renault Group’s Hybridization Hub in Spain:

      • Renewable energy storage and self-consumption
      • Increased usage of green hydrogen in the manufacturing process
      • Increased operational electrification
      • Long-term renewable PPAs that are new for cost stability and sustainability

Intelligent Charging and Innovative Grid Technology

Together, the businesses will create smart charging technologies that will allow

      • Energy transfers from vehicles to the grid (V2G) and from vehicles to homes (V2H)
      • Utilizing Iberdrola España’s Advanced Smart Assistant (ASA) to optimize energy use according to grid dynamics and home type
      • lower energy costs for consumers because of clever load control

      Increasing the Infrastructure for Charging

Among the ways the partnership will hasten the installation of EV charging stations in homes and public spaces are

      • Installing at-home chargers for Renault clients
      • Renault facilities’ expanded infrastructure, with a particular emphasis on mobilizing
      • cooperative installation of affordable, easily accessible EV charging infrastructure throughout Spain

This is the first deal of its kind between a Spanish energy company and a car manufacturer. Iberdrola España, which has over 10 million power contracts and is a leader in both public and private charging, teams up with Renault Group, which sold 155,000 cars in Spain in 2024.

With the goal of redefining sustainable transportation and clean energy integration throughout Spain’s mobility environment, this strategic cooperation signifies a common commitment to a low-carbon economy.

“Decarbonization is one of the most pertinent issues facing the automotive industry at present,” stated Josep María Recasens, President and CEO of Renault Group Iberia. The signing of this groundbreaking MOU between Iberdrola España and Renault Group is significant for Spain’s energy transition and electromobility because it addresses every step of the value chain, from increasing sales to charging infrastructure to decarbonizing industrial processes. The company is working to lower entry barriers, improve charging station infrastructure, extend the range, and lower the cost of electric vehicles in order to make them the dominant technology on a large scale.

Iberdrola España CEO Mario Ruiz-Tagle stated, “Today’s agreement is another point in a journey of close collaboration.” Both businesses have shown how fully committed we are to electrifying mobility, which is essential to our economic growth and energy independence. By working together, we have made sure that electric vehicles are now a reality worldwide. “The solution provided to customers by Iberdrola Spain and Renault Group is distinct from others that can be found on the market due to its focus and response to customer needs, its simplicity, and its innovation,” Ruiz-Tagle continued.
