Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) announced its plans to introduce a new battery electric vehicle (BEV) in the U.S. and Canada in partnership with Nissan Motor Co. Ltd., representing an important development in its long-term North American business strategy, Momentum 2030. The next-generation Nissan LEAF chassis will serve as the basis for the upcoming BEV and is expected to hit dealerships in the summer of 2026.

Mitsubishi is expected to launch a new or significantly revised vehicle every year between 2026 and 2030, and this development bolsters that pledge. The 2025 Outlander SUV’s launch marks the start of the effort.

Mark Chaffin, president and CEO of MMNA, said, “The Momentum 2030 plan is not just a roadmap—it’s a rallying cry for our company, employees, dealer partners, and customers.” “Our commitment to the U.S. market, electrification, and offering customers a varied lineup that includes internal combustion engines, plug-in hybrids, and battery electric vehicles has been reinforced by today’s announcement.”

Further announcements will provide more updates on the new BEV, including its name, design, specifications, and cost.

Four key pillars form the structure of Momentum 2030:

      • Developing the electrification route
      • Expanding and upgrading the product line for the market in North America
      • Updating the retail sales model
      • Expanding the network of Mitsubishi dealers and increasing local sales.

An important step in the company’s electrification efforts was taken with its collaboration with Alliance member Nissan, which puts Mitsubishi in a better position to compete in the changing North American auto industry.
