In a landmark achievement for electric vehicles, the Yangwang U9 Xtreme has officially become the world’s fastest production car, reaching an astounding top speed of 308.4 mph (496.22 km/h). This record-breaking performance was recorded at the ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg track in Germany, surpassing the previous record of 304.8 mph set by the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ in 2019.
Developed by BYD’s luxury sub-brand Yangwang, the U9 Xtreme is a hypercar that blends cutting-edge electric technology with exceptional speed and performance. The vehicle features a 1,200-volt electrical system, BYD’s lithium iron phosphate Blade Battery, and four electric motors producing over 3,000 horsepower, enabling unprecedented acceleration and top-end velocity.
The U9 Xtreme is engineered for extreme performance, incorporating semi-slick tyres, a revised DiSus-X suspension system, and track-optimised aerodynamics to ensure stability and precision at high speeds. Despite its supercar credentials, the vehicle maintains a zero-emission profile, aligning with the global shift toward sustainable high-performance mobility.
Marc Basseng, an experienced German racing driver, piloted the U9 Xtreme during the record attempt. He highlighted the car’s smooth, vibration-free electric power delivery, which allowed for focused and controlled driving at extreme speeds.
The U9 Xtreme is a limited-production hypercar, with only 30 units planned for release, making it not only a performance marvel but also a highly exclusive collectible. Its record-breaking feat underscores the potential of electric vehicles to rival and surpass traditional internal combustion engines in speed and engineering excellence.
This achievement represents a significant milestone in the automotive world, reinforcing the role of electric technology in shaping the future of high-performance vehicles.
