Volvo Cars has introduced the XC70 plug-in hybrid SUV, marking a significant step in the company’s push toward electrification. Designed for families seeking comfort, performance, and sustainability, the XC70 combines advanced hybrid technology, safety innovations, and Scandinavian design.
The new SUV delivers an all-electric range exceeding 200 km under CLTC testing—the longest for any Volvo plug-in hybrid to date—and supports fast charging from 0 to 80 per cent in just 23 minutes. Built on Volvo’s Scalable Modular Architecture (SMA), the XC70 also features bi-directional charging, allowing the vehicle to power external devices such as camping appliances. Combined electric and combustion power offers a total driving range of over 1,200 km, providing flexibility for both urban commutes and longer journeys.
Volvo emphasises the XC70 as a bridge for customers transitioning to full electric mobility, offering emission-free driving for daily commutes while retaining combustion engine flexibility for extended trips.
Design and Comfort
The XC70 showcases modern Scandinavian design, with a shield-like closed grille, sculpted lines, and C-shaped vertical taillights integrated into the rear glass. The interior features premium materials, spacious seating, smart storage, tuned acoustics, and immersive sound systems, ensuring a luxurious and practical experience for families.
Connectivity and Technology
Equipped with an AI-powered infotainment system, a 12.3-inch driver display, and a 15.4-inch centre touchscreen, the XC70 supports multitasking and offers an optional augmented reality head-up display. Remote cabin preconditioning and over-the-air software updates enhance convenience.
Advanced Safety Features
Volvo’s Safe Space Technology integrates radars, cameras, and sensors to monitor surroundings continuously, aiding in collision avoidance and urban safety. Driver-assist features include automatic lane change assist, Park Pilot Assist, and active navigation, promoting safer and more relaxed driving experiences.
Available for pre-order in China with plans to expand to Europe, the XC70 plug-in hybrid strengthens Volvo’s commitment to sustainable mobility while maintaining the comfort, performance, and reliability families expect from the brand.
