Skycharger, in collaboration with Electric Era, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging hub at 873 Palomar Street, Chula Vista. Strategically located along the I-5 corridor, the new facility supports both local EV drivers and cross-border traffic between Washington State and Mexico, marking a significant step in expanding EV infrastructure on the West Coast.
High-Speed Charging for Multiple EVs
The Chula Vista hub features four dual-port fast chargers, each delivering 200 kW of power, allowing up to eight vehicles to charge simultaneously. The facility is designed to serve passenger EVs, commercial fleets, and long-haul EV drivers, addressing the growing demand for reliable high-speed EV charging in Southern California.
Integrated Battery Energy Storage
A key innovation of the hub is the grid-tied battery energy storage system, providing 120 kW of supplemental power. This system helps balance peak grid demand, manage time-of-use electricity fluctuations, and ensures consistent charging availability for EV users even during high-demand periods.
Collaboration Driving Regional EV Growth
Johannes Copeland, COO of Skycharger, emphasized the hub’s importance:
“This site provides essential corridor charging for cross-border traffic and local EV drivers in Chula Vista and National City. Our collaboration with Electric Era accelerates the transition to zero-emission transportation across the region.”
Electric Era supplied a fully integrated fast-charging solution, combining the chargers, battery energy storage, and an energy management system to optimize performance and efficiency. Tait Services acted as the EPC contractor, overseeing site construction and installation.
Expanding the West Coast EV Network
The Chula Vista hub is part of Skycharger’s broader West Coast expansion, aimed at delivering reliable EV charging infrastructure to support both passenger and commercial vehicles. This initiative underscores the companies’ commitment to promoting sustainable transportation solutions and accelerating EV adoption in California.
By combining high-speed chargers, battery storage, and robust energy management, the hub ensures a resilient, future-ready EV charging network, reinforcing the region’s commitment to green mobility.
