Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., one of India’s most admired and diversified business conglomerates, today celebrates its 80th Founders Day, commemorating the visionary spirit of its founders, J.C. Mahindra and K.C. Mahindra. The company was established on October 2, 1945, coinciding with Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, symbolizing a commitment to enterprise, equality, and social responsibility.

A Legacy Rooted in Vision and Inclusivity

Even before India gained independence, Mahindra placed a bold advertisement in The Times of India, calling for enterprising individuals from all communities to join a company built on courage, fairness, and opportunity. This early focus on diversity and inclusivity remains at the heart of Mahindra’s philosophy.

Anand Mahindra, Chairman of Mahindra Group, remarked:

“Eighty years ago, Mahindra Group was founded with a clear purpose: to help build our nascent nation. Today, amid global uncertainty, we renew our pledge to propel India towards technological self-reliance and global respect.”

Dr. Anish Shah, Group CEO & MD, added:

“Our founders were ahead of their time. Their first advertisement emphasized entrepreneurship, integrity, diversity, and fearless optimism. These principles continue to guide us as we innovate, empower communities, and drive positive change worldwide.”

From Jeeps to a Global Conglomerate

Starting with the assembly of the first Willys Jeeps in post-war India, Mahindra has grown into a global federation of companies spanning mobility, technology, finance, hospitality, and renewable energy. Operating in over 100 countries, the Group champions sustainability, gender diversity, skilling, and rural prosperity, reflecting the enduring Mahindra philosophy: “Rise by enabling others to rise.”

      Impactful Programs Driving Social Change

The Mahindra Group’s initiatives like Kaabil and Nanhi Kali empower women and underprivileged girls with skills and education to secure meaningful livelihoods and futures. These programs exemplify the Group’s commitment to social impact and inclusive growth, reinforcing its legacy of enterprise, equity, and purpose-driven leadership.

Looking Ahead: India’s Global Manufacturing Leadership

In a rapidly evolving geopolitical and economic landscape, Mahindra envisions India emerging as a global manufacturing powerhouse, leveraging its young workforce, growing infrastructure, and favorable policies. The Group’s purpose-driven growth strategy aims to strengthen its position as a globally recognized brand while remaining rooted in the founders’ values of integrity, inclusivity, and innovation.

As Mahindra Group enters its ninth decade, it continues to lead with visionary leadership, collaborative spirit, and a commitment to sustainability, ensuring its impact resonates across communities, industries, and nations worldwide.
