      Nissan announced that beginning in 2026, a limited number of electric cars (EVs) will be able to utilize affordable bi-directional charging technology. This initiative is a component of Nissan’s strategic business plan, The Arc, which aims to generate new revenue streams and drive technologies that facilitate the shift to electric vehicles. It also fits with Nissan’s Ambition 2030 long-term strategy, which aims to make the world safer, cleaner, and more inclusive.

      With the help of vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology, or bi-directional charging, electric vehicle (EV) owners can power their houses with the electricity stored in their car batteries or sell it back to the grid. This technology, which enables EVs to store renewable energy like solar or wind power and give it back to the grid when needed, is considered as a crucial step toward lessening reliance on fossil fuels.

      The innovative potential of this technology was highlighted by Hugues Desmarchelier, Vice President of Nissan’s Global Electrification Ecosystem & EV Programs, who said, “This technology we will bring to customers is a potential game-changer for how we think about EVs.” Not just as a way to move from point A to point B, but also as a transportable energy storage device that can help people transition off fossil fuels and save money, bringing us one step closer to a future free of carbon emissions.

      Additionally, using a specialized app, Nissan’s V2G system will give users total control over how much energy they use. This launch is a component of Nissan’s larger plan to develop a completely integrated energy ecosystem in which EVs assist with clean energy distribution and storage in addition to providing zero-emission transportation.
