MG Motor, the iconic British automotive brand now owned by SAIC Motor, is ramping up its electrification strategy with the planned launch of 13 new electrified vehicles over the next two years. The upcoming lineup will feature battery-electric vehicles (BEVs), extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs), and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), reflecting MG’s commitment to sustainable mobility and global EV leadership.
The company has allocated approximately 10 billion yuan (~€1.2 billion) toward research, development, and production of these models, underscoring the importance of electrification in its growth strategy. The first of these new vehicles, the MG4, has already begun pre-sales and is set to officially launch on August 29, 2025.
Expanding Global Presence
MG Motor has experienced strong sales in Europe, delivering 153,100 units in the first half of 2025. However, the brand’s performance in China has been slower, with 57,254 units delivered between January and July. The company is betting on electrification to boost competitiveness in key markets, address regulatory challenges, and meet increasing consumer demand for New Energy Vehicles (NEVs).
By introducing a mix of electric and plug-in hybrid models, MG aims to cater to a wide range of customers—from environmentally conscious urban commuters to families seeking versatile SUVs. The expansion also aligns with global trends toward low-emission transportation, helping the company meet stricter regulations and sustainability goals.
Technological Edge and Future Outlook
Leveraging SAIC Motor’s advanced technologies and production capabilities, MG plans to offer vehicles with cutting-edge battery systems, longer ranges, and intelligent connectivity features. The strategy emphasises not just quantity but also quality, ensuring that each model delivers reliable performance, safety, and innovative user experiences.
With these 13 new electrified vehicles, MG Motor is poised to strengthen its position in the global EV market, support the transition to cleaner transportation, and establish itself as a leading player in the sustainable mobility landscape worldwide.
