Mahindra & Mahindra has officially launched the XEV 9S, marking the brand’s first full 7-seater electric SUV in India. Priced from ₹19.95 lakh (ex-showroom), the XEV 9S aims to offer spacious, premium, and sustainable mobility for families while strengthening Mahindra’s position in the rapidly growing Indian electric vehicle (EV) market. The launch event highlights Mahindra’s commitment to electrification and introduces a large, versatile SUV built on a dedicated electric platform.

Purpose-Built EV Platform and Spacious Design

The XEV 9S is built on Mahindra’s INGLO electric platform, designed specifically for EVs rather than adapted from internal combustion models. This “born-electric” architecture provides a flat floor layout, optimizing interior space for three rows of seating. The SUV delivers class-leading cabin comfort, with generous legroom and cargo space, including a 527-liter boot (with the third row folded) and a 150-liter frunk for additional storage.

      Battery Options and Driving Range

Mahindra offers the XEV 9S in six variants, featuring 59 kWh, 70 kWh, and 79 kWh battery packs. The top-end variant provides a claimed real-world range of up to 500 km, with an LFP battery pack backed by a lifetime warranty. Fast-charging capabilities and efficient energy management make it suitable for both city and long-distance travel.

      Performance and Driving Dynamics

Top variants of the XEV 9S deliver 180 kW of power and 380 Nm of torque, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 7 seconds and a top speed near 202 km/h. Additional features include adaptive suspension, brake-by-wire technology, and advanced driver-assistance systems, enhancing both safety and driving confidence.

      Premium Features and Connectivity

The SUV comes equipped with a triple-screen dashboard, ventilated second-row seats, a panoramic sunroof, premium upholstery, and Mahindra’s MAIA connectivity system. Quiet cabin design, acoustic glass, and minimal vibrations enhance the driving and passenger experience, making the XEV 9S a compelling family-oriented EV.

      Bookings and Deliveries

Bookings for the Mahindra XEV 9S start from 14 January 2026, with deliveries scheduled from 23 January 2026. Test drives are expected to begin on 5 December 2025, allowing potential buyers to experience the new SUV firsthand.

      Impact on India’s EV Market

With the XEV 9S, Mahindra brings a large, three-row electric SUV to a more accessible price segment, addressing range, space, and utility concerns. This launch could accelerate EV adoption among families and large-vehicle buyers, contributing to India’s transition toward sustainable and cleaner mobility solutions.
