Delhi is set to inaugurate its first-of-its-kind multilevel electric bus depot in Hari Nagar, marking a major step forward in the city’s transition to sustainable public transportation. The foundation stone for the project was laid by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who highlighted the depot’s role in modernizing Delhi’s transport infrastructure and promoting green mobility.
The state-of-the-art facility, estimated at ₹420 crore, is designed to accommodate 384 electric buses and will feature 81 advanced EV charging stations, capable of fully charging a bus within just 40 minutes. Spanning approximately 2 lakh square feet, the depot will also include retail and commercial spaces, helping generate revenue to offset operational costs.
Additional infrastructure will comprise 324 car parking slots, 104 two-wheeler spaces, and dedicated areas for Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) offices and dormitories, ensuring smooth operational and administrative management. The project is being executed by NBCC (India) Limited and is expected to be completed within 24 months.
Once operational, the depot is anticipated to enhance the efficiency of electric bus operations while serving as a model for sustainable urban mobility. The initiative reflects Delhi’s ongoing commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting eco-friendly transportation alternatives.
The Hari Nagar depot forms part of the larger ‘Sewa Pakhwada 2025’ celebrations, commemorating the 75th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, further reinforcing the city’s dedication to innovation, sustainability, and modern infrastructure development.
