BYD formally introduced the Atto 1 in Indonesia. With a starting price of under $12,000 (IDR 195 million), the Atto 1 is now among the most reasonably priced EVs available.
The Atto 1 is a rebranded Seagull EV, which is BYD’s best-selling electric vehicle in China. In several international markets, BYD’s smallest and least expensive EV is marketed under the names Dolphin Mini and Dolphin Surf.
At the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), BYD unveiled the Atto 1, which retails for IDR 195 million, or roughly $12,000.
There are two trim levels for the new entry-level EV: Standard Range Dynamic and Long Range Premium. The standard range Atto 1 Dynamic has an NEDC range of 300 km (186 miles) and is powered by a 30.08 kWh BYD Blade battery.
The Premium variant, which comes with a larger 38.88 kWh battery and an NEDC range of 380 km (236 miles), costs IDR 235 million ($14,500).
The interior is similar to other cars under the BYD brand, with a high-tech, smart cockpit that is minimalistic. It has a 7-inch digital driver’s instrument display and a 10.1-inch intelligent touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Long Range Premium model, on the other hand, has a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel and an additional wireless charging station.
The Atto 1 is marginally larger than the Kia Picanto but smaller than the Toyota Yaris, measuring 3,959 mm in length, 1,720 mm in width, and 1,590 mm in height.
At the occasion, Nathan Sun, the operations director for BYD Indonesia, stated, “This launch in Indonesia marks the first release of the Atto 1 in ASEAN, and the car is now available for pre-order.”
The Atto 1 is BYD’s third electric car to enter the Indonesian market and its most reasonably priced model to date. Additionally, BYD offers the Seal for IDR 629 million, the Atto 3 SUV for IDR 515 million, and the Dolphin for IDR 425 million.
With new government regulations encouraging domestic manufacturing, EV sales are increasing in Indonesia, the biggest vehicle market in Southeast Asia. The EV market share increased from 5% in the first half of last year to 10% in the first half of this year.
