VinFast Auto India, the subsidiary of the multinational EV giant VinFast, has announced the induction of its first cohort of 200 locally hired professionals at its soon-to-be-opened factory in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, marking a significant step towards developing a strong electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing ecosystem in India. The plant is anticipated to create up to 3,500 jobs for professionals over the next five years and will be a major component of VinFast’s expansion strategy in Asia.
In partnership with the Tamil Nadu government, specifically through its flagship Naan Mudhalvan programme, a comprehensive regional recruitment and skilling drive came to a successful conclusion with the onboarding. The programme aims to provide workforce-ready youth to India’s expanding manufacturing sector by coordinating education with industrial demands.
In order to fulfil international automotive standards, the new hires will receive specialised training from Vietnamese and Indian professionals after joining. VinFast’s larger goal of upskilling local personnel and preparing them for high-performance positions in advanced EV manufacturing includes this training framework.
Advice By bridging the gap between industry and academia and linking diploma students from polytechnic colleges with opportunities that are ready for the workforce, Tamil Nadu’s WorkLabs Cell was instrumental in making this onboarding process easier. In order to carry out the selection process, which involved a two-month institutional training program followed by assessments and interviews, the District Collector’s Office, led by Thiru K. Elambahavath, I.A.S., collaborated closely with VinFast’s leadership and institutions.
“We sincerely appreciate the support of District Collector Mr K. Elambahavath and the Industries Department, whose collaborative approach has been vital in translating our talent development goals into reality,” said VinFast Asia CEO Mr Pham Sanh Chau, who spoke about the milestone. “This facility is about people, progress, and creating a robust, inclusive ecosystem that can drive the Indian and international markets—it’s not just about cars.”
With 80% of the plant staff being made up of local trainees or freshmen and 20% being made up of seasoned Indian and international professionals from leading OEMs, VinFast’s workforce strategy employs an 80:20 hybrid model. The company’s emphasis on long-term industrial development, sustainable growth, and community involvement is reflected in the model.
VinFast’s first two EV products in India, the VF 6 and VF 7 premium electric SUVs, will be introduced at the Thoothukudi factory as it grows to accommodate 150,000 vehicles annually. To speed up EV adoption across the country, the business is also developing a nationwide network of dealerships and EV infrastructure, including fast-charging stations.
VinFast’s long-term commitment to India is reaffirmed by the hiring campaign and facility development, which see India not just as a market but also as a centre for production and innovation for Asia’s clean transportation future.
