Valeo has proudly announced that it will participate in a major international sporting event thanks to the 48V eAccess technology that will equip Toyota APM electric shuttles in Paris this summer.

Originally, the MPA was specifically designed by Toyota to provide a safe and efficient mobility solution for athletes and officials at the major sporting event in Tokyo, Japan, in 2020.

The electric shuttle will once again be at the heart of transport solutions at the next sporting event in Paris to facilitate mobility for everyone within the sports venues. It is a brand new version, more adapted to the European environment, which can carry 6 people including the driver and has been designed for very flexible use. The folding seats allow the transport of people in wheelchairs. The vehicle is also available in a backup version, developed for medical assistance, allowing the transport of a stretcher and medical personnel.

Christophe Périllat, Chief Executive Officer of Valeo, said: “We are delighted that Toyota has chosen Valeo eAccess technology to equip the APM electric shuttles. This confirms the relevance of Valeo’s strategy in exploring ever more sustainable and affordable technologies. Valeo will contribute with its technologies to make this major sporting event more sustainable while offering spectators and delegations a mobility experience adapted to the Parisian environment.”

Valeo eAccess is a scalable and affordable electric propulsion solution for urban mobility

Toyota has chosen Valeo eAccess Belt 14, an all-in-one solution (motor, inverter, gearbox) offering the possibility of driving up to 20 km/h with a gross vehicle weight of 1390 kg.

Valeo’s 48V eAccess combines a 48-volt 13.5 kW generator, based on the 48V electric propulsion platform that has already reached sufficient maturity to become standard equipment in the automotive market, with a gearbox and an innovative ribbed elastic belt to create a complete eDrive propulsion system.

This all-in-one solution is a unique transmission system in the automotive industry landscape and demonstrates Valeo’s expertise and ability to offer a modular approach for the fast-growing light vehicle market.

Offering the ability to reach a speed of 100 km/h and an average electric range of 100 km, Valeo’s eAccess 48V also meets high-performance noise and vibration (NVH) standards, and is part of a medium- and long-term strategy to reduce the automotive industry’s impact on the environment (end-of-life recycling, covered with recycled materials).

Valeo eAccess technology is already used in the Citroën Ami urban car as well as other applications such as Atul’s 3-wheelers aimed at the Indian market. Valeo’s expertise in 48V electric motors for small mobility is also available in the two-wheeler markets and the latest novelty is the BMW CE02 electric motorcycle.

Valeo eAccess 48V is a true game-changer in the electric propulsion industry, as it offers an affordable and easy-to-integrate solution to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility, a necessity to comply with increasingly stringent environmental regulations.
