Tesla Inc. has announced the departure of Siddhant Awasthi, the chief engineer overseeing the company’s highly anticipated Cybertruck program. After serving the company for eight years, Awasthi’s exit represents a major shift in Tesla’s senior engineering leadership during a pivotal period for its electric vehicle (EV) production plans.

According to a report, Awasthi played a crucial role in leading the engineering and production processes for the Cybertruck, Tesla’s first all-electric pickup truck. His leadership was instrumental in overcoming several design and manufacturing challenges since the vehicle’s prototype debut in 2019.

Awasthi, who joined Tesla in 2017, held multiple engineering positions before being appointed as Chief of the Cybertruck project. Under his direction, Tesla focused on refining the vehicle’s structural design, stainless-steel exoskeleton, and advanced battery technology. Tesla saw his contributions as crucial in aligning the model with its long-term vision for electrified mobility and innovation.

Industry analysts view Awasthi’s resignation as a significant transition point for Tesla, especially as the company continues to scale up Cybertruck deliveries and expand its EV lineup. While Tesla has not officially commented on the reason behind his departure, sources indicate that internal restructuring and shifting leadership priorities could have influenced the move.

The Cybertruck, produced at Tesla’s Gigafactory in Texas, began limited deliveries earlier this year. However, the production ramp-up has faced delays due to supply chain challenges and complexities related to its unique design. With Awasthi’s exit, Tesla is expected to appoint a new engineering lead to oversee the Cybertruck’s next phase of production and optimisation.

This leadership change follows a series of recent high-level transitions at Tesla as it continues to navigate competitive pressures in the global EV market. Analysts suggest that maintaining operational stability and consistent leadership will be crucial for sustaining the company’s ambitious EV rollout plans.

Tesla remains focused on its broader mission of accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy, with upcoming projects including advancements in battery technology, AI-driven manufacturing, and expansion into new global markets.
