Civic officials have confirmed that Olectra Greentech, a Hyderabad-based company, has delivered ten new single-decker electric buses to the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) initiative.
The delivery is a component of a contract in which Olectra would provide 2,100 single-decker buses overall under a wet lease arrangement, taking care of the drivers, fuel, and maintenance. With this most recent addition, Olectra’s 12-meter-long buses in the BEST fleet now number thirty, adding to the total of seventy vehicles under management by the transportation project.
Despite delays due to a legal dispute, this move is aligned with BEST’s expansion plan to integrate more electric buses, including double-decker models, into its services in Mumbai and surrounding areas.
The BEST undertaking, with approximately 3,000 buses, serves as a crucial mode of transport for around 30 lakh passengers daily in Mumbai and neighboring regions.
