Montra Electric HCV (IPL Tech), the clean mobility arm of the Murugappa Group, has officially inaugurated its state-of-the-art electric heavy commercial vehicle (eHCV) manufacturing facility in Manesar, Haryana. The new factory is a milestone in India’s sustainable logistics journey, featuring India’s first all-women, fully automated battery production unit and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) integrated with conveyor lines for streamlined eHCV production.

      Facility Overview

Spread across 255,000 square feet of land with a 150,000 square feet built-up area, the Manesar facility is designed to produce 6,000 trucks annually, with the flexibility to scale up to 7,500 units through additional shifts. The plant is engineered for multi-variant production, including Montra’s Rhino EV series and upcoming models.

      Key technological highlights include:

      • 60% Robotics Integration: Advanced automation for precision and efficiency

      • Industry 4.0 Practices: Full digital manufacturing ecosystem

      • In-House Battery Assembly: Capacity of 1.7 GWh

      • Testing Infrastructure: E&E labs, QA labs, battery pack cyclers, roll and brake testers, wheel alignment systems, headlamp aiming, and shower testing facilities

      • R&D & Prototype Workshops: Accelerated product development and innovation

      Sustainability and Localization

Montra Electric emphasises sustainable manufacturing, incorporating battery recycling, waste management, and on-site charging infrastructure. The company sources 74% of components locally (excluding imported cells), highlighting its commitment to supply chain resilience and localisation. Future expansion plans aim to integrate renewable energy solutions, reinforcing the plant’s eco-friendly operations.

      Women Empowerment and Community Engagement

The Manesar facility represents a landmark in gender inclusivity, with India’s first all-women battery production line, empowering women in the EV manufacturing sector. Montra Electric also plans local community engagement initiatives, including skilling programmes, tree plantation campaigns, and environmental awareness drives, contributing to socio-economic development in the region.

      Leadership Statement

P.V. Satyanarayana, Chief Business Officer, Montra Electric HCV (IPL Tech), said:

“The inauguration of our all-women-led eHCV factory in Manesar is a defining step in India’s transition to sustainable logistics. Combining scale, flexibility, and digital automation, the facility sets new benchmarks for innovation, employment, and green mobility. We are confident this plant will power the future of urban and industrial freight in India.”

      Government Incentives

Montra Electric plans to leverage benefits under the PM E-Drive Scheme and explore state-level incentives to support further manufacturing expansion. The initiative aligns with India’s national goals of electrifying freight mobility and promoting clean energy transportation.
