Montra Electric HCV (IPL Tech), the clean mobility arm of the Murugappa Group, has officially inaugurated its state-of-the-art electric heavy commercial vehicle (eHCV) manufacturing facility in Manesar, Haryana. The new factory is a milestone in India’s sustainable logistics journey, featuring India’s first all-women, fully automated battery production unit and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) integrated with conveyor lines for streamlined eHCV production.
Facility Overview
Spread across 255,000 square feet of land with a 150,000 square feet built-up area, the Manesar facility is designed to produce 6,000 trucks annually, with the flexibility to scale up to 7,500 units through additional shifts. The plant is engineered for multi-variant production, including Montra’s Rhino EV series and upcoming models.

Sustainability and Localization
Montra Electric emphasises sustainable manufacturing, incorporating battery recycling, waste management, and on-site charging infrastructure. The company sources 74% of components locally (excluding imported cells), highlighting its commitment to supply chain resilience and localisation. Future expansion plans aim to integrate renewable energy solutions, reinforcing the plant’s eco-friendly operations.
Women Empowerment and Community Engagement
The Manesar facility represents a landmark in gender inclusivity, with India’s first all-women battery production line, empowering women in the EV manufacturing sector.
