Montra Electric, the clean-mobility brand of the Murugappa Group, has announced its entry into the northern agricultural markets with the launch of the Montra Electric E-27—India’s first ARAI-certified electric tractor. The introduction took place at the 9th edition of EIMA Agrimach India 2025 in New Delhi, one of the country’s largest international exhibitions for farm mechanization and advanced agri-technology.
A Major Leap Toward Sustainable and Tech-Driven Farming
The E-27 represents a major accomplishment in India’s transition to cleaner and more efficient agricultural practices. Designed specifically for modern farming needs, the tractor delivers 27 HP equivalent power and 90 Nm torque through a high-efficiency PMSM motor, offering strong and consistent performance across plowing, tilling, spraying, and haulage operations.
Farmers can choose between 2WD and 4WD configurations, ensuring compatibility with varied soil and terrain conditions across the northern states.
Advanced Battery, Longer Runtime and Rapid Charging
Equipped with a 22.37 kWh LFP prismatic-cell battery, the E-27 offers:
-
Approx. 4.5 hours runtime
-
2.15-hour charging time
-
Enhanced thermal stability and safety
-
Dependable day-long operation across challenging field conditions
The tractor also meets stringent national performance and safety standards, earning certification from ARAI—a first for electric tractors in India.
Diesel-Like Capability, Zero Emissions
With an 8F+2R side-shift transmission, dual-speed PTO (540/1000 rpm), and a 720 kg hydraulic lifting capacity, the E-27 matches the operational capability of diesel tractors while eliminating tailpipe emissions and drastically reducing running expenses.
Up to 70% Lower Operating Cost for Farmers
The electric drivetrain results in a 70% reduction in operating expenses, with potential savings of up to ₹10 lakh over five years compared to diesel-powered models. Lower maintenance, no fuel consumption, quieter operation, and reduced vibration also enhance operator comfort and long-term health.
Leadership Perspective
Harish Prasad, CEO of Montra Electric Tractors, said the northern market expansion marks a pivotal moment for India’s agricultural transformation. He emphasized that electrification in farming is essential to achieving meaningful sustainability at scale, adding that the E-27 empowers farmers with advanced, zero-emission technology without sacrificing productivity.
Retail Expansion and Availability
The Montra Electric E-27 is now available across 17 dealerships in 10 states, with prices starting at ₹10.75 lakh (ex-showroom). The launch strengthens the brand’s position in clean mobility, extending its portfolio from electric commercial vehicles to electric tractors and paving the way for a future-ready agricultural ecosystem in India.
