By the end of this year, Mahindra is anticipated to introduce the all-electric XUV 3XO EV. S240 which is the internal codename, will enter series production by November of this year and will be positioned behind the XUV400 EV. It was announced last year that a new electric SUV based on the former XUV300 (now XUV 3XO) was under development. The launch was supposed to happen in the middle of 2024, but it looks like that will take longer.
For the XUV 3XO EV, Mahindra is purportedly targeting a monthly manufacturing target of 1,500–1,800 units, which is a low number considering the vehicle’s mass-market pricing. This might be the result of a delay in the adoption of EVs, particularly considering that despite several revisions, sales of the XUV400 EV never really took off. Mahindra intends to build 12,000 XUV 3XOs overall, using all three of its fuel types—electric, diesel, and gasoline.
In contrast to the XUV400 EV, the XUV 3XO EV is anticipated to have proportions that are exactly the same as those of its ICE equivalent. Although it will be designed along the lines of the redesigned SUV, some EV-specific elements should be anticipated. It is also anticipated that the interior and all of its equipment will be primarily carried over from the XUV 3XO.
Powering the XUV 3XO EV will be the 34.5kWh battery pack that does duty on the lower-spec variants of the XUV400 EV. There are, however, no details on the range or electric motor specifications at this moment.
Mahindra will be looking to price the XUV 3XO EV a lot more aggressively than the XUV400 EV. Prices could start from Rs 15 lakh and go up to Rs 17 lakh, which means it will be about 2 lakhs more affordable than the XUV400 EV at the top-end. The XUV400 EV has been a slow seller, but Mahindra will be hoping to have a lot more competitive edge with the XUV 3XO EV to finally take the challenge to the Tata Nexon EV.
