Toyota Motor Corporation declared that it has received certification under the government’s “Supply Assurance Plan for Batteries” from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) for its intentions to develop and produce next-generation batteries, including performance and all-solid-state batteries.
Three sectors are covered by the certification: (1) Prime Planet Energy & Solutions, Inc. (PPES) produces next-generation performance batteries; (2) Primearth EV Energy Co., Ltd. (PEVE) produces batteries; and (3) R&D and manufacture of all-solid-state batteries.
Based on the Economic Security Promotion Act, METI’s “Initiatives to Ensure a Stable Supply of Batteries” seek to strengthen Japan’s battery production infrastructure with a particular emphasis on essential materials, battery cells, and manufacturing equipment. Large-scale equipment expenditures are necessary for the battery business, and government backing is essential to maintaining and expanding Japan’s manufacturing capacity.
Toyota hopes to further the development of the sector, fortify the infrastructure supporting battery production, boost the competitiveness of electrified vehicles, and pursue carbon neutrality through a variety of means by spearheading battery innovation and manufacture locally.
