A Japanese electric pickup truck that runs entirely on electricity? Despite not being a Toyota or Honda, Isuzu’s latest electric pickup is a powerful vehicle. The D-MAX EV has a specialised Terrain Mode for serious off-roading, can tow more than 7,770 lbs (3,500 kg), and can plough through almost 24 inches (600 mm) of water. But there is a price for it.
Isuzu said it would begin shipping left-hand drive D-MAX EV models to Europe in the third quarter after announcing that it had started manufacturing them at the end of April.
Isuzu plans to start manufacturing right-hand drive vehicles for the UK before the end of the year. Early 2026 will see sales.
Isuzu boasted that the D-MAX EV has the same “no compromise durability” as the current diesel version when it released prices this week.
In addition to having a full-time 4WD system and a maximum towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes (7,700 lbs), the D-MAX EV pickup also has an additional Terrain Mode that Isuzu claims is intended for “extreme off-road capability”. Isuzu’s electric pickup can wade through up to 600 mm (24 inches) of water with 210 mm (8.3 inches) of ground clearance.
The WLTP range of Isuzu’s electric pickup, which is powered by a 66.9 kWh battery, is 163 miles. The D-MAX EV can be charged from 20% to 80% in approximately one hour at a maximum charging speed of 50 kW.
Inside and outside, the electric D-Max is much the same as the existing diesel-powered model, but it will cost a lot more.
