In a major push toward clean and sustainable urban mobility, Indian Railways has partnered with Indofast Energy, a leading battery-swapping solutions provider, to establish a wide network of battery swapping stations across key railway hubs in Hyderabad and Secunderabad divisions. This first-of-its-kind collaboration is set to accelerate India’s transition to electric mobility while strengthening public transportation infrastructure.

Indofast Energy is a 50:50 joint venture between IndianOil and SUN Mobility, aimed at providing rapid, efficient, and accessible battery-swapping solutions across India.

As part of this partnership, 80 battery swap stations have already been commissioned at 25 railway stations—with 56 stations under the Secunderabad division and 24 under the Hyderabad division. An additional 40 swap stations are scheduled to be deployed over the next three months. These stations aim to eliminate range anxiety for EV users and offer fast, convenient battery swaps for electric two- and three-wheelers, especially benefiting ride-sharing drivers, delivery partners, and daily commuters.

The initiative is being spearheaded by South Central Railway, with expectations of similar projects rolling out in other railway divisions. Indofast Energy will be responsible for setting up and operating the swap stations, which are strategically located within station premises for seamless access and integration into daily routines.

“This collaboration marks a significant step toward building cleaner and more efficient transit ecosystems,” said Shri R. Gopalakrishnan, Divisional Railway Manager, South Central Railway. “The deployment of battery swapping stations benefits not only passengers through improved last-mile connectivity but also reduces congestion and emissions around railway stations. It aligns with the Railway Board’s policy on promoting e-mobility at railway stations.”

Anant Badjatya, CEO of Indofast Energy, emphasised the growing demand: “Our operational stations in Hyderabad are already proving to be a lifeline for last-mile connectivity and delivery services. We are proud to partner with Indian Railways on this transformative journey and are committed to expanding this network for a cleaner, more efficient tomorrow.”

Indofast Energy has ambitious plans to deploy over 10,000 battery swapping stations across 40+ cities in the next three years, aiming to serve over one million EV users nationwide. By offering quick, affordable, and reliable battery swap services, the company is working to build a smart, integrated urban mobility ecosystem that supports India’s clean energy goals.

This partnership between Indian Railways and Indofast Energy represents a powerful public-private alliance and a significant step toward realising a greener, connected, and more sustainable transportation future for India.
