The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has created an e-Postgraduate Diploma in E-Mobility, an 18-month curriculum designed to meet the increasing need for competent workers in the electric vehicle (EV) market. The program is scheduled to commence in March 2025 and will be conducted in conjunction with EdTech startup Great Learning.

IIT Bombay faculty established the curriculum with the goal of bridging the gap between academic knowledge and real-world applications. Participants will be able to participate in interactive, live workshops on topics such as electric car design, battery technologies, electrical drives, and power electronics. The program also covers practical tasks, including modeling EV subsystems, creating embedded controllers for electric motors, and simulating power electronic systems. The program will finish with an on-campus graduation ceremony, during which participants will be granted alumni status.

At the launch event, Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director of IIT Bombay, emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating that it aligns with the institute’s mission to promote experiential learning in innovative fields. The program is tailored for professionals in engineering, R&D, academia, and entrepreneurship, as well as recent graduates. Eligibility criteria include a B.E./B.Tech or equivalent degree, with opportunities open to postgraduate degree holders as well.

The electric vehicle industry in India has seen rapid growth, driven by government initiatives and an increasing focus on sustainability. Programs like this aim to prepare professionals to meet industry demands and contribute to the sector’s expansion. Mohan Lakhamraju, CEO of Great Learning, highlighted the potential of this program to equip individuals with the skills required for emerging opportunities in the EV sector.

This initiative represents IIT Bombay’s efforts to advance electric vehicle education and skill development, reinforcing its role as a leading institution in the technological education space.
