The Indian Charge Point Operators Association (ICPOA), India’s first and only industry body dedicated exclusively to EV charging infrastructure, hosted its flagship annual event, the Bharat EV Charging Conclave 2025, at The Lalit, New Delhi. The gathering brought together charge point operators (CPOs), charger equipment manufacturers (OEMs), electric mobility service providers (EMSPs), utilities, policymakers, and technology experts to deliberate on scaling reliable and consumer-centric charging infrastructure for India’s electrification goals.
Founded as a Section 8 not-for-profit entity, ICPOA is committed to fostering collaboration within the charging ecosystem, driving investments, shaping practical policies, and raising consumer awareness. The Conclave highlighted ICPOA’s mission to place charging infrastructure at the centre of India’s clean mobility transition and net-zero ambitions.
Key initiatives discussed included the Know Your Battery (KYB) programme, efforts to strengthen interoperability and roaming agreements, and partnerships with government bodies, automakers, and energy companies to expand reliable charging services nationwide.
Awadhesh Kumar Jha, Executive Director of Glida and Chairman of ICPOA, underscored the importance of charging infrastructure in EV adoption, stating,
“Our journey began with a clear need: charging was treated as a footnote, not as the foundation of EV adoption. ICPOA was created to put charging at the centre of India’s mobility transition. With KYB and our commitment to reliability, we are determined to make EV adoption not just viable but irresistible for every Indian driver.”
The association’s founding members include Glida, ChargeZone, Zeon, EVRE, Magenta Mobility, Jio-BP Mobility, ADOR, Exicom, Tirex, Mindra, Gentari, VNT, Bright Blu, One Plug, Pulse Energy, and Plugzmart. The alliance is expanding steadily as more stakeholders join to strengthen India’s charging network.
The Conclave also featured keynote sessions and panel discussions addressing policy frameworks, renewable integration, grid readiness, automaker strategies for EV deployment, and consumer confidence-building measures. Industry experts and researchers showcased advancements in technology and advocated for reliable, transparent, and accessible public charging services.
With India targeting net zero emissions by 2070, electric mobility remains central to its climate strategy. EV adoption is already accelerating, with over 1.5 million electric vehicles sold in FY2024 across categories, alongside growing penetration of electric buses and passenger EVs. The ICPOA’s efforts aim to ensure the charging ecosystem keeps pace with this momentum, enabling a seamless transition to clean mobility nationwide.
