Iberdrola España, the Spanish subsidiary of energy giant Iberdrola, has achieved a significant milestone by deploying 10,000 public electric vehicle (EV) charging points across Spain. This expansion strengthens the company’s leadership in the country’s electric mobility transition and supports the growing adoption of sustainable transportation.
Leading Spain’s EV Charging Infrastructure
Since installing its first charger in 2016, Iberdrola España has rapidly expanded its network. The 10,000 charging points include over 2,700 high-power stations and around 1,300 ultra-fast chargers, catering to both urban commuters and long-distance travelers. Many of these chargers are operated under the Iberdrola | bp pulse joint venture, launched in December 2023.
Commitment to Renewable Energy
All charging points are powered by 100% renewable electricity, ensuring that Spain’s EV adoption contributes to reducing carbon emissions. Iberdrola España emphasizes sustainable energy sources as a key part of its strategy to decarbonize transportation and support Spain’s green energy targets.
Significance for the EV Market
The milestone enables the network to serve up to one million electric vehicles, enhancing accessibility for EV owners nationwide. By expanding ultra-fast charging infrastructure, Iberdrola addresses the growing demand for shorter charging times and wider coverage, critical for accelerating EV adoption in Spain.
Future Outlook
Iberdrola España continues to lead Spain’s energy transition with ongoing investments in charging infrastructure and renewable energy projects. The company’s efforts are expected to boost EV penetration, encourage sustainable mobility, and support the European Green Deal objectives.
