Hyundai Motor India is reshaping the mid-size electric SUV landscape with the launch of its much-anticipated Creta Electric. While it retains the familiar design of its ICE counterpart, the electric version brings a suite of advanced features, smart technologies, and EV-specific improvements, aiming to deliver a premium driving experience beyond expectations.

      Two Battery Options, Impressive Range

The Creta Electric comes with two battery pack choices:

      • A 42 kWh pack offering an ARAI-certified range of 390 km, and

      • A larger 51.4 kWh variant with up to 473 km range.

Hyundai claims the SUV can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds, making it not just efficient but also performance-focused.

      Smarter Tech, Premium Interior

Inside, the Creta Electric is a leap ahead. It features:

      • Twin 10.25-inch curved displays for infotainment and instrument cluster

      • In-car payment system, digital key, and over-the-air (OTA) updates

      • Eco-conscious upholstery with vegan leather and recycled plastic bottle materials

      • Ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, and memory/powered seating for extra comfort

The cabin is a mix of sustainability and sophistication, complete with a floating centre console and innovative storage options like a 22-litre frunk.

      Utility Meets Innovation

The electric SUV integrates several EV-first features:

      • Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, enabling external device charging

      • A front-mounted charging port concealed under the Hyundai logo

      • Active air flaps, aerodynamic wheels, and low rolling resistance tyres for better energy efficiency

      Safety and Assistance Upgraded

Creta Electric is equipped with Hyundai SmartSense Level 2 ADAS, featuring 19 functions, including:

      • Lane-keeping assist

      • Blind-spot monitoring

      • Forward collision avoidance

      • Adaptive cruise control

Standard safety includes six airbags, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring, and all-wheel disc brakes.

      Regeneration and Drive Modes

      The SUV offers:

      • i-Pedal single-pedal driving

      • Steering-mounted regen paddles

      • Shift-by-wire gear control

These features offer refined EV driving dynamics, improving both performance and energy recovery.

      What to Watch Out For

Despite its advantages, some enthusiasts point out that the Creta EV is a conversion of an ICE model, not a ground-up EV. This raises questions about platform optimisation, battery packaging, and long-term maintenance. Additionally, Hyundai’s 8-year or 160,000 km battery warranty is seen as conservative compared to competitors offering lifetime coverage.

       The Bottom Line

Hyundai Creta Electric is more than just a green update—it’s a thoughtfully engineered product offering advanced tech, luxury features, and practical utility. While it may not be a born-EV, it sets a new benchmark in the mid-size SUV category with a blend of familiarity and innovation.

As India’s EV market evolves, the Creta Electric positions itself as a smart, aspirational, and feature-rich choice—certainly more than what meets the eye.
