Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced to implement a robust policy aimed at fostering the growth of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across the state.

EV ChargingThis policy is designed to enhance accessibility, convenience, and employment prospects in the emerging e-mobility sector.

During a meeting in Shimla, Chief Minister Sukhu underscored that the policy would provide substantial incentives, including a 50% subsidy, to private operators interested in establishing EV charging stations.

He said, “The state administration is ready to introduce a comprehensive policy aimed at advancing the establishment of EV charging stations within the state. This policy will encompass various aspects, such as accessibility, convenience, and the creation of job opportunities. Private operators will be encouraged through a 50% subsidy for the establishment of EV charging stations.”

This approach aims to stimulate private sector involvement in expanding Himachal Pradesh’s EV charging infrastructure.

The Chief Minister was briefed on the status of existing as well as upcoming electric vehicle charging stations across the state. He reiterated the government’s commitment to making the state a model for EV adoption and reducing carbon emissions. Both public and private sectors are collaborating to promote EVs, aligning with the global trend toward sustainable transportation.

In addition to expanding the charging network, the state government is actively developing six green corridors covering National and State Highways, totalling 2,137 kilometers in the initial phase.

Furthermore, the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) is gradually integrating electric buses into its fleet, and the Chief Minister instructed HRTC to identify suitable routes for these new electric vehicles.

The government’s vision involves a significant reduction in fossil fuel dependency by transitioning to electric public transport.

It also emphasizes the importance of conducting scientific assessments of land suitability for construction and infrastructure development.
