In a major step toward decarbonizing India’s industrial transport sector, Flytta, in collaboration with Kalyani Powertrain Ltd (KPTL) and Dalmia Cement, has launched the country’s first retrofitted 13-tonne electric truck. This innovative vehicle is purpose-built for the transportation of cement bags across challenging ghat roads and industrial terrains, marking a milestone in India’s clean mobility transition.
A Pioneering Step in Sustainable Industrial Transport
The retrofitted electric truck has been developed by Kalyani Powertrain Ltd, the electric mobility arm of the Kalyani Group, leveraging its advanced EV engineering and manufacturing capabilities. The first vehicle will commence commercial operations with Dalmia Cement on the Yadwad–Goa route, transporting cement bags while ensuring zero tailpipe emissions.
This collaboration signifies a powerful convergence of Flytta’s sustainable logistics solutions, Kalyani’s cutting-edge electric drivetrain technology, and Dalmia Cement’s commitment to green manufacturing. Together, they are setting new benchmarks for eco-friendly logistics and industrial decarbonisation in India.
Flytta’s Commitment to Green Mobility
With the successful launch, Flytta has initiated deployment of its first fleet of retrofitted electric trucks and aims to roll out around 200 vehicles in the coming months. The company now operates as a fully integrated medium- and heavy-duty EV trucking platform, offering payload capacities ranging from 13 to 40 tonnes.
These electric trucks are designed to serve a variety of heavy industries—including cement, steel, coal, metals, and minerals—reducing carbon emissions while maintaining high operational efficiency. Flytta’s retrofitting approach allows for faster adoption of electric technology across existing diesel fleets, providing a cost-effective path to sustainability.
Industry Leaders Share Their Vision
Rahul Kanuganti, CEO of Flytta, emphasised the significance of the initiative, stating:
“This launch is a defining moment for Flytta and for India’s logistics sector. By collaborating with Kalyani Powertrain and Dalmia Cement, we are demonstrating how industrial transport can transition rapidly to sustainable solutions without compromising efficiency.”
Pankaj Sonalkar, Managing Director of Kalyani Powertrain Ltd, highlighted the company’s engineering innovation, saying:
“We are proud to partner with Flytta and Dalmia Cement on this industry-first initiative. This project showcases how advanced retrofitting can accelerate India’s transition to clean mobility.”
Srawan Agarwal, Assistant Executive Director of Logistics at Dalmia Cement, added:
“At Dalmia Cement, sustainability is central to our operations. The adoption of EVs in industrial logistics is crucial for reducing carbon emissions and advancing India’s energy self-sufficiency.”
Paving the Road for India’s Green Logistics Revolution
The launch of India’s first retrofitted electric truck represents a critical milestone in the nation’s journey toward net-zero industrial logistics. It reinforces the growing collaboration between manufacturers, technology providers, and sustainable logistics platforms to build a cleaner, more energy-efficient transport ecosystem.
As India pushes forward its National Electric Mobility Mission Plan and decarbonisation goals, initiatives like Flytta’s retrofitted EV trucks are expected to play a pivotal role in reshaping the country’s freight and logistics landscape for a greener future.
