In order to enter India’s expanding electric vehicle industry, FlixBus has inked a Memorandum of Understanding with ETO Motors to implement electric intercity coaches there. Starting next month, four luxury coaches with zero emissions will be the first vehicles in the alliance.

Plans for building charging stations along FlixBus’s routes and establishing a framework for future growth in electric mobility solutions are part of the partnership. ETO Motors will contribute its knowledge of electric mobility, while FlixBus will offer its global experience in intercity transportation.

According to FlixBus India Managing Director Surya Khurana, the collaboration supports India’s objectives to lower carbon emissions and advance green transportation. With plans to build public charging infrastructure nationwide, the alliance would enable first-mile, last-mile, and intercity operations, according to Rajeev YSR, CEO of Thunder Plus and Group Chief Marketing Officer at ETO Group.

Since its founding in Germany in 2013, FlixBus has grown to become a significant intercity bus service provider in both Europe and the US, distinguished by its technologically advanced approach to transportation. In 2024, the company’s global expansion strategy included an entry into the Indian market.

Since 2018, the Indian electric mobility solutions company ETO Motors has operated in the electric car market with an emphasis on environmentally friendly transportation options. The company has already introduced small commercial vehicles and electric three-wheelers in a number of Indian towns.

This collaboration comes as the Indian government sets aggressive goals to cut carbon emissions and encourages a larger use of electric vehicles. By 2030, the nation wants 70% of commercial vehicles and 30% of private automobiles to be electrified.
