Electric Vehicle Training in IndiaA skilled workforce is a primary requirement of every industry that aims to flourish in the cutthroat world of technology.

The case is especially true for the nascent Electric Vehicle(EV) Industry which has shown its potential in the last few years. Despite its high demands and support from local government, the electrification of the automotive business of India is still progressing at a slower rate than expected.

Core reasons for this slow pace can be attributed to a lack of proper charging infrastructure across India as well as a deficiency of skilled and trained Electric Vehicle(EV) workforce.

If you want a more detailed explanation of India’s EV challenges, you can check out my previous article,” Key Challenges Indian Electric Vehicles(EVs) Face in 2022”

Though in recent years EV demand in India has soared, many people are still hesitating when it comes to making the switch from fuel-based cars.

One of the most underrated reasons for this is due to lack of skilled EV technicians in the field that can help maintain and repair EVs.

While EVs are no harder to repair than fuel-based cars, specialized training is required.

To overcome the hurdle of switching ICE vehicles with electric ones, India needs a steady workforce of engineers, technicians, researchers, and laborers.

The lack of proper academic as well as proper centres for Electric Vehicle(EV) Training in India poses another major issue that discourages ICE vehicle repairmen to switch to the EV domain.

Before going on about various training programs and training providers for EVs, let’s focus on Need Electric Vehicle Training in India.

Need Electric Vehicle(EV) Training in India

TrainingAs mentioned in the beginning, learning skills of any new generation of technology is one of the primary requisites for any individual who wants to establish his or her career in that industry. This is specifically true for EV engineers, technicians and repairmen who want to switch their domains in this flourishing market.

This in turn also helps in reducing the high unemployment rates since one of the basic causes of greater unemployment is a scarcity of such talents.

Currently, the majority of engineering and technology courses do not offer industry-ready EV capabilities so another reason to promote Electric Vehicle Training in India is to prepare a steady workforce of skilled people to support the mass adoption of electric mobility in India.

This new change to EV-centric courses, however, needs tight collaboration between academics and industry that would not only help to improve domestic production thus raising the economy of the country, but will also help to create jobs, which is something that is desperately needed.

According to India’s 2030 SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), electric vehicles are especially critical for reducing carbon emissions wherein Electric Vehicle Training in India plays a major role to ramp up EV growth to reach India’s ambitious target of 30% e-mobility in the automotive industry by 2030.

While range anxiety and proper charging infrastructure will always remain the prerequisites for successful EV adoption, the right skills obtained via Electric Vehicle Training in India can help the country to overcome some of these shortcomings.

Laying out some of the major risks in absence of proper Electric Vehicle Training in India includes,

      Component Risk

Since every EV contains high voltage components and cabling, the repairmen are always at risk of getting a fatal electric shock. These components always retain a dangerous voltage even when switched off so technicians should have proper Electric Vehicle Training in India to handle it with care.

      Explosion Risk

Being an electric-based vehicle that houses a large battery case, the explosion of the vehicle is a common predicament that can occur due to improper storage of electrical energy within the vehicle. The emission of explosive gases and harmful liquids is another reason if batteries are incorrectly modified or damaged.

      Movement Risk

Electric motors may sometimes move unexpectedly due to magnetic forces within the motors wherein road users may remain unaware of cars when electrically driven since they are silent in operation.

      Manual Handling Risk

Lack of proper Electric Vehicle Training in India while dealing with Electric & Hybrid vehicles may incur manual handling risks when replacing a battery.

      Medical Risk

Sometimes electric systems may also affect medical devices belonging to vehicle users, like pacemakers.
