In an effort to provide safer and more environmentally friendly student transport in the Capital, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena officially launched a fleet of 24 electric school buses from Sardar Patel Vidyalaya, Lodhi Estate.
Saxena commended the administration, led by Chief Minister Gupta, for taking prompt action on environmental issues. “CM Gupta has Delhi in good hands. Within six months, she has started doing amazing work. The city will see long-awaited changes over the next two to three years,” he stated.
According to officials, the new electric buses are anticipated to support about 1,200 students and assist in removing 400–500 private vehicles off the road, which will help reduce vehicle emissions and decongest the area.
CM Gupta referred to the deployment as a “decisive step towards environmental conservation” and stated that it will guarantee schoolchildren’s safe, sustainable transport while safeguarding their physical and mental health. “Living in balance with nature is the path to true progress,” she continued.
She stated that her administration continues to place a high premium on pollution control. Clearing landfills, reducing dust pollution, increasing green space, and revitalising the Yamuna riverfront are some recent initiatives. “The next logical step in our clean transport roadmap is to switch school buses to electric mode,” Gupta stated.
She praised Sardar Patel Vidyalaya for using government support to convert its whole fleet to electricity and urged other schools to do the same. “Now, clean air will flow through Delhi’s veins instead of pollution,” she said.
In order to instill in kids a feeling of eco-responsibility, the Chief Minister also announced plans to start interschool competitions centred on sustainable development and environmental conservation. “Today, being patriotic means making daily contributions to keep our nation and city safe, clean, and pollution-free,” she stated.
