At Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, Convergence Energy Services Limited’s (CESL) “EV as a Service” initiative was introduced by Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs Shri Manohar Lal. Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) owns CESL as a subsidiary. Within the ministries, departments, CPSEs, and institutions of the Central and State Governments, the program represents a major step toward expanding the use of electric vehicles (EVs).

In order to address the increasing demand for EVs in the government sector, CESL’s plan aims to deploy 5,000 electric vehicles over the course of the next two years. In accordance with their operating requirements, government offices can select from a variety of EV brands and models according to the program’s flexible procurement methodology. This will help India reach its lofty goal of having net-zero emissions by 2070 and support the government’s environmental sustainability aims.

With around 2,000 electric vehicles now in circulation nationwide and about 17,000 electric buses planned, CESL has already achieved significant strides. It is anticipated that the project will improve India’s energy security, lower carbon emissions, and lessen dependency on fossil fuels. In his support of CESL’s work, Shri Manohar Lal pointed out that the initiative is a prime example of sustainable innovation and will accelerate India’s shift to greener transportation options.

The inaugural event showcased a variety of e-mobility solutions with an amazing electric vehicle exhibition and an EV parade with over 100 electric vehicles. Among these were electric bicycles, electric two-wheelers, electric three-wheelers, electric four-wheelers, electric tractors, electric mobile charging vans, electric freight pickups, electric buses, and electric trucks. In addition to EV producers, think tanks, and fans, representatives from a number of ministries, including the Ministry of Power, Ministry of Heavy Industries, Department of Revenue, and Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, attended the event.
