The electric scooter Chetak 3201, a limited edition that can only be purchased on Amazon, was introduced by Bajaj Auto. The Chetak 3201, priced at Rs 129,000 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru), boasts a 136km range, making it more capable than the top-tier Chetak Premium.

Bajaj Auto has not stated whether this Chetak special edition is a brand-new model or if it will only be offered in a restricted quantity. It is important to remember that this version is exclusively available on Amazon at this time.

The limited-edition Chetak 3201 comes finished in black, along with ‘Chetak’ stickering on the side panels and a two-tone quilted seat. Bajaj Auto has equipped this model with a monochrome TFT as standard, but it can be upgraded to a colour TFT by purchasing the ‘TecPac’.

The company hasn’t mentioned the cost of the TecPac but includes features like a TFT that supports Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, and two riding modes (Sport and Eco). Additionally, the Chetak 3201 boasts a 3.2 kWh battery pack similar to the top-spec Premium variant but has a higher claimed range and charging time.

The Bajaj Chetak is seeing a strong growth trajectory and has benefited from the launch of a more affordable variant earlier this year. In June 2024, the e-scooter achieved the 200,000 sales milestone in the domestic market.

With 66,512 Chetaks sold in the January-June 2024 period, the company maintains its No. 3 ranking after Ola Electric and TVS Motor Co. Its January-June retails give the Pune-based company a market share of 13%, more than doubling its 5.51% share in H1 2023.

The increased pace of demand for the Chetak is reflected from the fact that the last 100,000 sales in the domestic market have come in just eight months, from November 2023 through to June 2024 (101,962 units) with the highest monthly sales of 16,691 units in June 2024. The first 100,000 units had taken all of 48 months or four years.

What is giving the Chetak new verve in the market is the ramped-up production and a growing dealer network, which is to be expanded from its existing presence in 164 cities and 200 touchpoints to around 600 showrooms in the next three to four months. Bajaj Auto is also soon to further up the ante with the launch of a new mass-market e-scooter under the Chetak brand umbrella.
