Charging stations will be positioned strategically along 50 major national highway networks and other high-traffic regions as part of the ambitious initiative.

The central government announced intentions to invest ₹2,000 crore under the PM E-Drive project to establish over 72,000 public EV charging stations across the country, marking a significant push towards EV infrastructure.

To expedite the development of EV charging infrastructure, senior representatives from several ministries, including Petroleum and Natural Gas, Road Transport and Highways, and Heavy Industries, convened under the direction of Heavy Industries Minister HD Kumaraswamy.

As part of the ambitious project, charging stations will be placed strategically around the nation along 50 major national highway routes and important locations with heavy pedestrian traffic. Metropolitan areas, toll booths on highways, train stations, airports, petrol stations and significant state road networks are among the priority destinations.

The establishment of dependable charging networks throughout the nation is one of the main concerns of prospective EV adopters, and this infrastructure development is an important step in India’s shift to sustainable transportation.

India is headed towards becoming a global leader in sustainable transportation under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The PM E-Drive program is a game-changing project designed to provide our inhabitants with easy, reasonably priced, and clean transportation options. We are laying the groundwork for energy security and environmentally friendly economic growth, not only infrastructure.
