Yamaha has officially introduced the Aerox E electric maxi-scooter in India, marking a major step forward in the company’s electric two-wheeler strategy. Designed for performance-orientated riders, the Yamaha Aerox E blends sporty styling, advanced features, and practical electric mobility, positioning itself as a premium option in India’s fast-growing EV scooter segment.
Powertrain and Performance
The Aerox E is equipped with a 9.4 kW electric motor, delivering up to 48 Nm of peak torque, ensuring quick acceleration and strong performance in urban and highway conditions. Yamaha has fitted the scooter with a dual detachable lithium-ion battery setup consisting of two 1.5 kWh packs, offering a combined usable capacity of 3 kWh. This configuration supports a certified riding range of up to 106 km on a single charge, making it suitable for city commuters as well as long daily riders.
Design and Styling
Retaining the aggressive styling of the ICE-powered Aerox 155, the Aerox E features a sharp and aerodynamic body structure, twin LED headlamps, a sporty stance, and premium build quality. Yamaha emphasises that the electric version continues the Aerox line’s signature “maxi-sports scooter” design, appealing to young and performance-focused riders.
Smart Features and Technology
The scooter comes packed with advanced technology, including
-
Three riding modes: Eco, Standard, and Power
-
Boost mode for short bursts of enhanced acceleration
-
Reverse assist for easier maneuvering in tight parking spaces
-
5-inch colour TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity
-
Turn-by-turn navigation and smart-key technology
For enhanced safety, Yamaha offers front and rear disc brakes, a single-channel ABS, and traction control, improving stability and grip during harsh riding conditions or on slippery surfaces.
Battery, Handling, and Weight
The Aerox E weighs 139 kg, which is slightly heavier than its petrol counterpart due to the dual-battery setup. However, the centrally mounted battery pack and optimised chassis geometry help deliver balanced handling and improved ride stability.
Manufacturing and Market Strategy
Yamaha will manufacture the Aerox E in India as part of its long-term commitment to local EV production and expansion. The company has confirmed that pricing details will be announced in early 2026, with the launch falling under Yamaha’s broader plan to introduce 10 new EV and ICE models by the end of 2026 in the Indian market.
Position in India’s EV Landscape
With its sporty design, premium hardware, advanced electronics, and credible electric performance, the Yamaha Aerox E is expected to compete with established electric scooters such as the Ather 450X, TVS iQube ST, Ola S1 Pro, and Bajaj Chetak. Its emphasis on high performance and dual-battery practicality gives it a unique position in the premium EV category.
