Yamaha Motor India has announced an ambitious plan to launch 10 new two-wheeler models, including two electric scooters, by the end of 2026. The Japanese automaker aims to strengthen its presence in India’s growing premium and electric mobility markets with this strategic expansion.
The move represents an important event for Yamaha, aligning with its global vision of sustainable mobility and technological innovation. According to company officials, Yamaha’s upcoming lineup will feature a mix of premium internal combustion engine (ICE) motorcycles and next-generation electric scooters, reflecting its dual focus on performance and electrification.
Yamaha’s Bold EV Strategy for India
Under its “The Call of the Blue” campaign, Yamaha is targeting rapid electrification without compromising its premium identity. The company has confirmed that its first two EVs—the Yamaha Aerox E and Yamaha EC-06—will debut in early 2026. These electric scooters are designed to deliver a balance of style, performance, and range, catering to India’s evolving urban mobility needs.
Both models are expected to come equipped with advanced lithium-ion battery systems, offering a range of up to 160 km per charge (as per global reports). Yamaha aims to position these EVs in the mid-to-premium price range, targeting metropolitan and Tier-1 cities first, before expanding nationwide.
Expanding in the Premium Segment
While Yamaha’s electric future takes shape, the company remains committed to its stronghold in the premium 150 cc–155 cc motorcycle segment, led by models such as the R15, MT-15, and FZ series. The new ICE models planned for 2026 will continue to emphasise sporty design, performance, and rider comfort—the hallmarks of Yamaha’s DNA.
The company’s strategy also includes expanding production capacity and enhancing its local supply chain to support both EV and ICE growth. Yamaha aims to utilise its 15 lakh-unit annual manufacturing capacity more effectively across its Indian facilities.
Yamaha’s Vision for Electric Mobility
Eishin Chihana, Chairman of Yamaha Motor India Group, stated that the company’s electric roadmap focuses on “premium performance, advanced technology, and sustainability,” rather than competing in the budget EV space. He emphasised that Yamaha’s EVs will “redefine expectations for quality, safety, and design in the electric two-wheeler segment.”
This approach mirrors Yamaha’s broader international EV push, where models like the E01 and NMAX Electric have gained traction in select global markets.
Industry Implications
Yamaha’s entry into India’s electric scooter market adds competitive intensity to a space currently led by Ola Electric, TVS, Ather Energy, and Bajaj Auto. With its strong brand equity and reputation for reliability, Yamaha’s presence is expected to boost consumer confidence and drive adoption in the premium EV category.
The rollout of ten new models—combining innovation, electrification, and premium features—positions Yamaha as a formidable player in India’s two-wheeler evolution.
