HEV’s Take on This
Yamahaโs EC-06 priorities reliability, motor technology, and weather protection over aggressive pricing. This signals a premium, quality-first EV strategy, likely aimed at brand-loyal urban consumers rather than mass-market volume chasing.
India Yamaha Motor has unveiled its first electric scooters for the Indian market – the Aerox-E and the EC-06 — marking the company’s entry into the electric two-wheeler segment. The move aligns with Yamaha’s long-term global strategy for sustainable mobility and its plan to expand beyond the internal combustion engine (ICE) portfolio.
The Aerox-E is positioned as a high-performance electric scooter in Yamaha’s premium ‘Maxi Sports’ category, while the EC-06 has been developed as a city-focused commuter model targeting urban and intercity riders.
Yamaha Aerox-E: Performance-focused electric scooter
The Aerox-E is powered by a 9.4kW (peak) motor generating 48Nm of torque and uses dual detachable 3kWh batteries with high energy-density cells. Yamaha claims a certified range of 106km. The scooter offers three riding modes -Eco, Standard and Power along with a Boost function for quick acceleration. It also gets a reverse mode for added convenience.
With the action speeding up in India’s electric scooter market, we are seeing major manufacturers enter the segment with new models to compete against popular offerings. The latest to enter the electric scooter race is India Yamaha Motor (IYM), with the new EC-06 e-scooter.
