Wallbox, a global leader in electric vehicle (EV) charging and energy management solutions, has partnered with SureCharge Corp. to deploy a comprehensive fast-charging network across Alberta and British Columbia. This strategic collaboration aims to enhance EV accessibility, accelerate adoption, and support Canada’s transition to sustainable transportation.
Project Overview
The partnership will establish 24 high-speed charging sites featuring 96 Wallbox Supernova 180 kW DC fast chargers. These sites will be strategically located along critical highways and travel corridors, ensuring seamless connectivity for EV drivers in Western Canada.
The initiative is supported by over $4.7 million in funding from the Government of Canada through Natural Resources Canada’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program, along with $400,000 contribution from the Government of British Columbia, highlighting strong governmental commitment to EV infrastructure development.
The first charging hubs are expected to become operational by late 2025, including initial sites in Red Deer, Lacombe, and the Enoch Cree Nation. Expansion will continue throughout 2026 and 2027, targeting high-traffic corridors and underserved communities.
Technological and Operational Highlights
-
Supernova 180 kW DC Chargers: Each site will be equipped with dual-head chargers, capable of rapid charging to significantly reduce wait times.
-
Installation and Maintenance: SureCharge Corp., in partnership with SureTek Electric & Technologies Ltd., will manage installation and ongoing maintenance to ensure reliable, efficient service.
-
Community Impact: The project will connect previously underserved areas, reducing range anxiety and enabling greater EV adoption across Western Canada.
Strategic Significance
This partnership exemplifies the impact of public-private collaborations in scaling EV infrastructure. By combining Wallbox’s cutting-edge charging technology with SureCharge’s regional expertise and robust government backing, the initiative provides a reliable, accessible, and future-ready charging network.
The expansion not only facilitates sustainable mobility but also positions Western Canada as a front-runner in EV adoption and green transportation infrastructure.
