Volvo Cars is taking a major step to promote sustainable electric mobility by introducing a Free Home Charging Initiative for new fully electric car buyers in Sweden. Starting February 2026, the programme will offer eligible customers one year of complimentary fossil-free home charging, in collaboration with Swedish energy provider Vattenfall.

Key Features of the Free Home Charging Initiative

      • Duration and Coverage: Customers will receive up to 5,150 kWh annually, enough to cover approximately 25,000 km of driving, based on the Volvo EX90’s WLTP cycle.

      • Eligibility: Private buyers or lessees of new fully electric Volvo vehicles with an active electricity contract with Vattenfall qualify for the offer.

      • Smart Charging Integration: The Volvo Cars app allows users to schedule charging during low-cost, low-emission periods, monitor battery status, and optimise energy consumption.

      • Billing Management: The electricity usage will be billed via Vattenfall, with a maximum average cost of 1.5 SEK per kWh, ensuring cost transparency and simplicity.

      Advancing Sustainable Mobility

Volvo Cars plans to expand the initiative beyond Sweden, using insights from the launch to partner with sustainable energy providers across Europe and other markets. The company also aims to integrate Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technology in upcoming models like the EX90, allowing EVs to feed energy back to the grid or power homes, supporting smarter, greener energy ecosystems.

      Strategic Partnership

This initiative strengthens the long-standing collaboration between Volvo Cars and Vattenfall, underlining both companies’ commitment to fossil-free living, sustainability, and accelerating EV adoption. By providing free home charging, Volvo aims to reduce barriers to EV ownership and encourage environmentally responsible driving.

      Benefits for EV Buyers

      • Reduced charging costs for the first year

      • Access to smart charging features via the Volvo app

      • Support for a fossil-free, low-carbon lifestyle

      • Opportunity to participate in future V2X energy innovations

With this initiative, Volvo Cars positions itself as a leader in sustainable automotive innovation, making EV ownership more convenient and environmentally friendly for Swedish customers.
