An important turning point in Mexico’s shift to sustainable urban mobility has been reached with the introduction of the Volvo 7800 Electric, the nation’s first electric articulated and bi-articulated bus, by Volvo Buses. The new electric bus, which is based on Volvo Buses’ global BZR electromobility platform, intends to improve the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system by providing a more efficient, cleaner, and more capacious mode of transportation.
The purpose of the Volvo 7800 Electric is to greatly reduce emissions in urban areas while meeting the increasing need for greater passenger capacity.
The 25.6-meter-long, bi-articulated Volvo 7800 Electric can carry up to 300 passengers, although the articulated version can only carry 191. With a 250 kWh charge capacity, both models guarantee dependable and effective operation.
Volvo Buses is providing a maintenance contract, access to spare parts, and prompt servicing to optimize uptime and guarantee smooth operations for transport companies. The newest active safety features from Volvo Buses, which put the safety of cyclists and pedestrians first, will also be installed on the new electric bus.
In order to enhance fleet management and operational efficiency, the Volvo 7800 Electric also brings a connection and circularity model, which is unique for the Mexican market.
The Volvo 7800 Electric, which is based on Volvo’s flexible BZR electromobility platform, can be tailored to meet various operational requirements, demonstrating the company’s dedication to sustainability and innovation. The first deliveries of the bi-articulated and articulated models are anticipated in 2026, and they will be produced at Volvo Buses’ plant in Mexico.
Volvo Buses is establishing a new standard for electrified public transportation in Mexico with this launch, opening the door to a more efficient and environmentally friendly urban mobility future.
