Volvo Buses has unveiled its BZR Electric coach chassis, a breakthrough in long-distance electric mobility, featuring a record 720 kWh battery capacity and an impressive 700 km driving range under the SORT 3 test cycle. The new chassis is designed to enable long interregional journeys with fewer charging stops, providing greater operational flexibility for bus operators.

      Advanced Features and Configurations

The BZR Electric coach chassis is available in two- and three-axle configurations, with four to eight modular battery packs, allowing operators to customize energy capacity based on route and operational requirements. It supports 250 kW CCS and 450 kW OppCharge fast charging, ensuring efficient turnaround times for long-distance travel.

Equipped with Volvo’s latest active safety systems, the chassis is compatible with bodies from multiple coachbuilders, catering to both tour & charter services and long-distance routes in urban and intercity environments.

      Industry Impact

Anna Westerberg, President of Volvo Buses, stated,

“Our new BZR Electric chassis not only delivers record range but also provides operators with versatility to run longer routes efficiently. This is a major milestone for sustainable intercity travel.”

The launch of the BZR Electric coach chassis positions Volvo Buses as a leader in sustainable mobility, supporting the global shift toward zero-emission public transport and reducing carbon footprints in the commercial bus segment.

      Strategic Significance

With increasing demand for long-range electric buses, Volvo’s BZR Electric chassis addresses critical operational challenges, including range anxiety and charging infrastructure limitations, while offering high energy efficiency and modular scalability.
