The Volvo EX30, Volvo’s smallest and most affordable all-electric vehicle, made its debut in the middle of 2023. It is now official that the tiniest Volvo electric vehicle will arrive in India in 2025.

Martin Persson, Head of Volvo Cars for Asia Pacific (apart from China), confirmed it to the media during his remarks.

He said, “It (EX30) is our most sustainable car ever, if you look at the CO2 footprint, it’s significantly lower than other cars. Of course, price is one thing, but I think it will appeal to those who are environmentally conscious.”

The EX30 SUV has a very minimalistic exterior design, with key highlights being a closed-off grille and a digital pattern for the Thor Hammer-shaped LED DRLs. There’s the Volvo logo in the closed-off grille (also sporting the front camera) and the ADAS radar in the bumper.

Its sides have a free-floating roof-like effect thanks to the blacked-out A-, B-, and C-pillars. The EX30 gets rounded-off wheel arches, which house up to 20-inch aerodynamically designed alloy wheels depending on the variant chosen. At the back, your attention is drawn to the stylishly connected LED taillights, which are inspired by the long units present on Volvo’s flagship electric SUV like the EX90, having a C-shape appearance.

The minimalistic design approach has been carried forward in the electric SUV’s cabin as well. The only points of attraction on the dashboard are the modern 3-spoke steering wheel, vertically designed AC vents, and the portrait 12.3-inch touchscreen display (with wireless Apple CarPlay only). Volvo is offering the EX30 internationally with a total of four cabin theme options, including two dual-tone upholstery choices.

Apart from the central infotainment unit, the EX30 is also equipped with wireless phone charging, heated front seats and steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, and an air purifier. Its safety net comprises multiple airbags, a 360-degree camera, rain-sensing wipers, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

It supports AC charging as well as DC fast charging of up to 153 kW, which takes 28 minutes to top up the battery from 10 to 80 percent on the mid- and top-spec variants. The lower-spec variant supports DC fast charging of up to 134 kW and it takes 26 minutes for taking the battery from 10 to 80 percent.

We believe Volvo could price the EX30 from Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom) in India if locally assembled like the XC40 Recharge. It will serve as a direct rival to the Hyundai Ioniq 5, while being a premium alternative to the BYD Atto 3. The Volvo EX30 will also take on the BYD Seal due to its similar expected price range.
