The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has approved plans to set up electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at key junctions, municipal parking areas, and other high‑traffic locations in the city. The decision was made during a council meeting chaired by the Mayor.
The proposal is part of efforts to support the growing adoption of electric vehicles in Vijayawada and will be funded through programs such as Fame India Phase II, the Andhra Pradesh Electric Mobility Policy, Smart City Mission, AMRUT, and Urban Infrastructure Funds.
In addition to EV infrastructure, council members discussed ongoing drainage works, sanitation issues, and civic maintenance. The meeting also included debates over appointments of sanitation workers and delays in social security pension distributions.
This session was the final council meeting of the current VMC term, which concludes on March 17, 2026. After this, special officers are expected to take charge of municipal administration until new representatives are appointed.
