Vietnamese electric carmaker VinFast is preparing for its official debut in the Indian automotive market with the launch of two electric SUVs — VF7 and VF6. Both models were first showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo earlier this year, and pre-bookings opened last month with a refundable token amount of ₹21,000.

Production for the two SUVs began earlier this month at VinFast’s newly inaugurated assembly facility in SIPCOT Industrial Park, Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. While the official launch is expected next month, a test mule of the VF7 has been spotted on the roads of Noida, signalling that final testing is underway.

      Design and Exterior

The prototype seen in spy images was fully camouflaged but appeared production-ready. Key visible features include a connected LED taillight strip across the tailgate, a roof-mounted spoiler, a trapezoidal cut on the lower tailgate, a low-slung stance, and 19-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels.

      Variants and Colours

VinFast will offer the VF7 in three variants — Earth, Wind, and Sky. Customers can choose from six colour options: Jet Black, Desat Silver, Crimson Red, Zenith Grey, and Urban Mint. The interior theme will vary by variant: the Earth variant will feature an all-black cabin, while the Wind and Sky trims will get a dual-tone mocha brown and black finish.

      Expected Powertrain

While India-specific specifications are yet to be confirmed, the VF7 is sold globally with two powertrain configurations. The single-motor, front-wheel-drive version delivers 201 bhp and 310 Nm, paired with a 75.3 kWh battery offering up to 450 km WLTP range. The dual-motor, all-wheel-drive version produces 349 bhp and 500 Nm, with a claimed range of 431 km.

Performance figures include 0-100 km/h in 9.5 seconds for the single-motor variant and 5.8 seconds for the dual-motor setup.

The VinFast VF7 is expected to compete in India’s growing mid-size electric SUV segment, offering a blend of modern design, multiple variants, and competitive range. With the official launch just weeks away, VinFast aims to make a strong first impression in one of the world’s fastest-growing EV markets.
