RML Group has unveiled the VarEVolt battery, a groundbreaking electric vehicle (EV) battery capable of fully charging in just 18 seconds, marking a major advancement in EV technology. This ultra-fast charging is achieved through a 200C charge and discharge rate, vastly surpassing the 4–5C rates of current EVs like the Porsche Taycan, which take 12 to 15 minutes for a full charge.
The VarEVolt battery boasts an impressive energy density of 6 kW per kilogram, allowing for rapid power delivery critical for high-performance vehicles. Its modular design enables manufacturers to customise battery configurations for specific requirements, such as extended range or improved acceleration.
Already, the VarEVolt has been integrated into limited-production vehicles like the Czinger 21C hybrid hypercar. RML Group is also developing upgrade kits to retrofit existing hypercars, including the LaFerrari and McLaren P1, with this advanced battery technology.
While the battery has received Conformity of Production certification under Rule 100 of the UNECE, enabling mass production, widespread adoption will depend on the availability of compatible high-performance charging infrastructure.
The VarEVolt battery represents a significant breakthrough in EV technology, combining ultra-fast charging, high energy density, and modular adaptability, with potential applications in both new and existing high-performance vehicles.
