The Uttar Pradesh (UP) government has officially concluded its existing Electric Vehicle (EV) subsidy scheme on October 13, 2025, and announced that only EVs manufactured within the state will be eligible for subsidy benefits starting October 14. The move aligns with the state’s strategy to boost local manufacturing and attract fresh investments in the rapidly growing electric mobility sector.
Under the revised framework, subsidy benefits for electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers will now be available exclusively to models produced in UP-based facilities. The decision follows the state’s updated Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy, which emphasizes promoting ‘Made in UP’ initiatives and supporting the development of domestic EV ecosystems.
Officials from the UP Department of Industries confirmed that the new policy aims to incentivize local production, strengthen supply chains, and create employment opportunities across manufacturing clusters in Noida, Greater Noida, Lucknow, and other industrial hubs.
“Subsidies are a powerful tool to shape industrial growth. By channeling them towards homegrown manufacturers, we’re ensuring that the benefits directly contribute to Uttar Pradesh’s economic expansion and self-reliance,” a senior official stated.
The previous subsidy scheme, which covered EVs registered in the state regardless of manufacturing origin, played a key role in driving early adoption. However, with the growing number of EV assembly units and component makers establishing bases in UP, the government is shifting focus from consumer incentives to production-linked growth.
The change is also expected to boost investor confidence, as multiple global and domestic EV players are setting up facilities under the Make in UP initiative. This includes investments in battery manufacturing, charging infrastructure, and EV component production.
Uttar Pradesh remains one of India’s top states in EV adoption, with over 4 lakh electric vehicles registered as of mid-2025. The new manufacturing-focused subsidy framework is likely to further strengthen its position as an emerging EV manufacturing powerhouse in northern India.
