To establish Kanpur as a significant centre for the production of electric vehicles, the Uttar Pradesh government has declared a ₹700 crore EV manufacturing hub. The programme is a component of the state’s larger plan to establish itself as a pioneer in sustainable transportation in the country.
The Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy 2022, which encourages EV businesses with subsidies, tax breaks, and infrastructure support, will be used to build the new hub. It is anticipated that the complex would host several manufacturers of EV vehicles and components.
State officials estimate that the Kanpur EV centre will create more than 5,000 direct and indirect job possibilities, significantly boosting the local economy. Through special areas and incubation facilities inside the industrial park, it will also assist startups and MSMEs.
The 30-acre EV manufacturing zone is ideally situated to provide convenient logistics access through rail and road networks. In keeping with India’s net-zero goals, the park will also implement sustainable practices and include green energy sources to power operations.
Due to the growing popularity of electric two- and three-wheelers, Uttar Pradesh has already become one of India’s leading EV markets. It is anticipated that the new Kanpur operation will deliver vehicles and parts to other regions of North India while also satisfying regional demand.
The state government hopes to draw in both domestic and foreign EV manufacturers with this effort. In line with India’s “Make in India” and “Green Mobility” initiatives, officials emphasised that this development will not only encourage clean travel but also establish Uttar Pradesh as a manufacturing hub.
