The establishment of a greenfield aluminium die casting manufacturing plant in Sambhaji Nagar (Aurangabad), Maharashtra, has been approved by the Board of Directors of Uno Minda Limited, a global technology leader in the production of automotive components and systems. Meeting the quickly increasing demand for casting components, especially in electric two- and four-wheelers (e-2Ws and e-4Ws), is the goal of this strategic growth.

Aluminium die casting has become essential for lightweight, high-performance vehicle platforms as the trend towards electric mobility picks up speed. Advanced die-casting capabilities are essential to EV powertrain and body applications because electric vehicles need a lot more aluminium-based structural and thermal components than their internal combustion equivalents.

By providing necessary casting components for Uno Minda’s future 4W-EV powertrain factory, the new facility will also be a key part of the company’s backward integration strategy. The site, which is in Sambhaji Nagar (Aurangabad), Maharashtra, was chosen to guarantee logistical effectiveness and close access to the new EV powertrain plant as well as other important OEM clients in the area.

The project would be implemented gradually over the following five years, with a total anticipated capital cost of about ₹210 crore. A balanced combination of debt and internal accruals will be used to finance the investment. It is anticipated that Phase 1 of the plant will start commercial operations by Q2 of FY27.

This investment underscores Uno Minda’s long-term dedication to bolstering localisation initiatives, enhancing domestic manufacturing capabilities, and maintaining leadership in the rapidly changing electric mobility market.
