The first functional smart battery-swapping station in Southeast Asia has been formally inaugurated on Phuket Island, Thailand, by U Power Limited, an AI-driven solutions provider for intelligent mobility and advanced energy networks. The milestone comes after the region’s first fleet of electric taxis that can change batteries was introduced in May 2025 and builds on U Power’s unique UOTTATM battery-swapping technology. As the first round-the-clock smart swapping station created especially for electric taxis and ride-hailing fleets, the Thailand Station was created through a joint venture with SUSCO Public Company Limited, opening the door for a more environmentally friendly, AI-enabled transportation system in Thailand.
After UNEX EV and CP-MG collaborated to deliver swappable EVs in April 2025, U Power’s end-to-end ecosystem is now complete with the launch of the Thailand Station. These cars, which are now in use as taxis in Phuket, are equipped with a weatherproof, AI-powered station that can quickly change the batteries in a matter of minutes. The station is the first zero-carbon battery-swapping location in Southeast Asia and is designed to withstand the tropical climate of the island. Through exchanging operations, drivers can earn battery tokens through its integration with U Power’s battery bank system. This incentive model is intended to develop as the network grows and more compatible EVs are put into service throughout the region.
“We are excited to open Southeast Asia’s first battery swapping station catering to electric taxi fleets, a major milestone in growing our global footprint and a crucial advancement in our joint venture with SUSCO,” said Johnny Lee, CEO and Chairman of U Power. “The Thailand Station, which incorporates cutting-edge AI technologies into an intelligent and weather-resilient infrastructure, is U Power’s first fully automated EV energy replenishment model.” “We have no doubt that this business strategy will be a repeatable model throughout Southern Europe, South America, and the larger ASEAN region.” “Our goal is to create a complete battery-swapping ecosystem that provides transportation and energy networks with intelligent, dependable, and carbon-free energy solutions.”
