Indian electric mobility technology company Tsuyo Manufacturing has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with the Karnataka government to set up a state-of-the-art EV powertrain manufacturing plant and dedicated testing track in Dharwad. The announcement was made at the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2025, reinforcing the state’s growing position as an emerging hub for clean mobility and advanced automotive engineering.
The proposed facility will focus on developing and producing a wide range of high-performance electric powertrain solutions for commercial electric vehicles (EVs). Tsuyo will manufacture multiple categories of electric motors—IPMSM, AC induction motors, SRM, SynRM, and axial flux motors—along with e-drives, e-axles, automatic transmissions, and integrated 2-in-1 and 3-in-1 EV powertrain systems. This diverse product lineup is aimed at supporting heavy-duty EV applications such as electric buses, trucks, mining vehicles, and construction equipment.
To enhance validation and safety standards, Tsuyo will also build a large-scale testing track capable of evaluating commercial EV powertrains under real-world operating conditions. The facility will initially support power outputs ranging from 0.5 kW to 250 kW, with expansion potential up to 600 kW through the company’s partnerships with CETL and LvKON.
According to Tsuyo, the investment aligns with India’s broader push toward indigenous EV manufacturing, helping reduce dependence on imported powertrain components and strengthening the country’s supply chain for next-generation mobility technologies. The company expects the project to generate significant direct and indirect employment, contributing to Karnataka’s industrial and economic development.
Karnataka’s Minister for IT and Biotechnology, Priyank Kharge, noted that the LoI fits into the state’s Local Economy Accelerator Program (LEAP), which aims to decentralise growth and promote advanced manufacturing across tier-2 and tier-3 cities. With Dharwad gaining prominence as a manufacturing destination, the new EV powertrain facility is expected to boost the region’s technological capabilities and attract further investments.
Tsuyo’s upcoming plant is set to become one of India’s most comprehensive manufacturing and testing ecosystems for commercial EV powertrains, supporting the country’s transition toward sustainable, high-performance electric mobility.
